Most students will use an web browser software application to find information on the internet. All the major tech companies include browsers with their operating systems, so will always have a browser available to your. The major browsers are (with links to download them if you wish):

There are other, specialized browsers, such as Vivaldi which is highly customizable or Brave, which blocks all ads by default. Some older computers also include Microsoft Explorer.

Each of these browsers interact with the web a bit differently. For college, you should have at least two browsers on whatever device you use to do your college work. Some websites display better with one browser than another. Other times, the security features of one web browser will prevent you from visiting a website. Most Windows OS come with Edge and Mac OS come with Safari. Adding Firefox and Chrome to your device will help ensure you have the browsing tools to succeed in college.
