December 21, 2025 Grades are in. It’s a standard grade schema of 90-100 as an A, 80-89 as a B. I round at .56, so 79.56 is a B and 78.55 is an C.
As I wrote below, I do not discuss final grades. I am willing to discuss if work was submitted on time but did receive credit. Please email with specific details and links to the work in question.
Thank you for you efforts this semester and good luck in the New Year.
December 20, 2025 Grades in but for Citizenship. The Citizenship grade is based on how your engaged as a citizen of this class. It has three parts, though I’m going to turn that into one grade:
Self evaluation- Your final reflection indicated what you felt you contributed to your teams. Unless you indicated you did not contributed much, I’m assigning 1/1 points to students for their self evaluation. If you didn’t complete a Final Reflection, I’ll assign .9/1 points.
Other students: most students thanks other students in their group for their help throughout the semester in a form, a Reflection, or in a Teams message. If someone called you out by name in any capacity, that’ll earn 2/2 points.
My evaluation: I take into consideration the quantity and quality of your engagement with your fellow students and with others. This is at most 1 point.
Most students who complete the class (did not ghost their fellow students) earn 3 or more points, so this grade almost always helps final grades. Final grades are due by Tuesday, but I plan to input them by Monday night. Even if I’ve input your grade, I can change it as I own the grades forever (it is a weird higher education thing).
Thank you for all your work and engagement with each other, especially your suggestions in your Final Reflection for how to make this class better.
December 17, 2025 I’ve assessed Reflection 8. I was a bit snarky as many students write more than half their Reflections about their other classes or the challenge of balancing college and high school. The point of Reflections is to lock in your learning from this class. As well, please look around your community and consider that struggling to balance your free public education is a good problem to have. We all have competing time constraints, and those cause stress, but a sense of perspective of what others are facing is also important, which I realize is hard online. I am heartened at how many of you found support from each other in your projects.
In your final Reflections, I encourage you to highlight people in your team that have helped you. I use these shout outs for the Citizenship grade and your words matter tremendously.
Finally, someone pointed out to me that emojis are more nuanced than my usage indicates. If you ever received a thumbs up or a smiley face emoji from me, that was sent unironically, as in “nice job” or “your work makes me happy.” A student told me that “thumbs up” is often interpreted as “this is weak, so I’m sending you the opposite emoji of what I wish to express.”
December 16, 2025 On the Report Back Form, in D2L there is a column for Report Back Form 1. I posted the link to the Report Back form in Week 15. I intended for you to report back to me twice, but I didn’t link to the form again in Week 16. Many of you did fill out the form a second time, but there’s a fairness issue if I didn’t put the link in week 16. So, I turned the second submission into a bonus of .5%, which means a 0 for this grade won’t hurt anyone, but those who submitted the report twice get credit for their work.
December 16, 2025 I am grading at home today with a sick kid. If you need me, I’m available by email or we can do a virtual chat.
December 12, 2025 The “Gantt Chart” grade is credit for planning your final project. Some groups filled out the Gantt Chart (well done). Other groups engaged in robust planning on Teams (chat, posts). I’ve some evidence that other organizing took place on email or text, but I can’t see that. Regardless, as long as your Team was planning your project, and I could see that, I awarded credit.
December 12, 2025 I’ve tried some grading today, and I’ve emailed a couple folks, but a minor health complication had kept me less than productive. I’ll get to the catch up grading asap and apologies for not getting more grades cleared today. Stay warm this weekend.
December 12, 2025 For the end of the semester a couple of notes:
